Choose the kind of evening first
Puducherry offers a hotel bar with a programme, a brewpub visit or a relaxed drink with dinner. Those are different plans. The Storyteller's Bar at The Promenade and Catamaran Brewing Company are concrete leads to investigate; the hotel's Bay of Buddha is a rooftop dining option rather than another name for the basement bar. Check the current event, entry rules and serving arrangements before setting out.
The Storyteller's Bar: check the programme
The Promenade's operator describes The Storyteller's Bar as one level below the hotel, with cocktails and a programme that can include live music, DJs and karaoke. Use the official page to investigate the venue, then ask what is happening on your date. A general events description does not mean there is live music every evening, and it does not establish whether admission, a reservation or a cover charge is needed.
Bay of Buddha and Risque: different spaces at the same hotel
The Promenade's own dining page distinguishes Bay of Buddha, with outdoor rooftop seating, from Risque, a sea-facing lounge, and The Storyteller's Bar. Choose the setting before booking and ask which menu and seating area your reservation covers. A rooftop description does not promise an unobstructed view from every table, and weather can change whether outdoor seating is practical.
Catamaran: a brewpub on Anna Salai
Catamaran's own contact page places the brewpub on the third floor at 35 Anna Salai, at the Muthu Mariamman Kovil Street junction, above Westside. This is a separate destination from the seafront hotel. Confirm the current pours, food menu and entry arrangements directly. Do not assume a beer named on an old menu is on tap today, or that a visit includes a production tour.
Alcohol-free is still an evening out
If you are not drinking alcohol, ask about the current non-alcoholic menu before choosing a venue mainly for its bar programme. Coffee, tea or a drink with dinner can be enough without building an evening around nightlife. Check sugar, dairy or other ingredients when relevant; a cocktail-style presentation does not tell you what is in the glass.
Plan the return before ordering
Check the current local drinking-age and venue entry requirements and carry the identification the venue accepts. Arrange a sober return and do not drive after drinking.
