Delhi is not one temperature

A Delhi packing list starts with your travel dates. The city has hot summers, cooler winters and a monsoon period, so the same suitcase will not serve every visit equally well. A photograph of sunshine at a monument tells you little about the early morning or the journey home.

Use the forecast for the actual week, then compare it with the activities you have planned. A mostly indoor work trip and a day of outdoor heritage walks need different choices, even when the dates are identical.

Build clothes around the season

In hot weather, favour light, comfortable clothing and sun protection. In cooler weather, bring layers that can work across an early start and a warmer afternoon. Delhi Tourism’s broad seasonal guidance is a useful starting point, but an average is not the weather for your particular visit.

For wet days, think about rain protection, shoes that tolerate the journey and a place for damp items. An umbrella may help on a short walk; it does not make a long outdoor programme appealing in every condition.

Walking shoes earn their space

Choose shoes you already know rather than a new pair saved for the holiday. Markets, station approaches and monument grounds can make a day much longer on foot than the route description suggests. Look at the last walk as well as the transport connection.

A compact day bag can hold the items you actually need without making every stop cumbersome. Check a particular attraction’s bag restrictions before leaving, especially if you planned to carry a laptop or a larger camera setup.

Leave room for the place you will enter

Bring clothing that can suit a place of worship as well as a restaurant or museum. A light layer may help with covering requirements, but it is not a substitute for a site’s specific rules. Ask when the requirements are unclear.

Keep footwear arrangements practical if religious visits are part of the day. Avoid packing only complicated shoes that make a simple stop awkward. Dress requirements can differ, so do not expect one rule to cover every site.

Make the small things accessible

Keep booking details and needed identification available, with a secure way to carry them. For medication, use your own prescribed plan and original packaging where required; investigate any relevant transport or entry rules before travelling.

Check the charging needs of your own devices and the accommodation’s arrangements. Leave space for a small purchase instead of starting with a bag already stretched shut. Delhi is easier to enjoy when the suitcase supports the trip rather than deciding what you can do.
