Confirm the exact property location, cottage or room category and expected journeys to the places you need. A beach-side address does not establish safe swimming or unrestricted shore access.
If you want a homestay, ask who is hosting
A privately listed apartment, a serviced room and a hosted home are not the same thing. Establish who meets you, whether the host lives there, who shares the building and how help is reached after hours. Ask for the actual address and access arrangement before paying. Neither of the named hotels here should be represented as a homestay.
Practical checks before booking
Request the total with tax, meals, extra people and transfers. Confirm bed setup, air-conditioning, bathroom and accessibility details. Temple Bay: a Mamallapuram resort, not central Chennai
Radisson Blu Resort, Temple Bay Mamallapuram is a separate coast-led base. Its operator lists garden chalets as well as other accommodation and a pool. Make the destination part of the choice: staying in Mamallapuram is not the same as sleeping near central Chennai's shopping or work addresses. Confirm the actual view category, transport and pool operation rather than treating every room as beachfront.
Ideal Resort: compare the room, not the coastal label
Ideal Resort's Mahabalipuram accommodation page lists garden-view rooms among its categories. That gives another specific coast-led alternative to investigate, but a garden-view booking should not become a sea-view promise. Compare the bed arrangement, access, meals and complete terms for your dates. A nearby coast is scenery and a travel choice, not a statement that swimming conditions are safe.
Keep Amethyst's Folly in the right category
Amethyst's own description identifies The Folly as an exhibition and event space, alongside its boutique and cafe. It is not evidence of an overnight hotel called The Folly at Amethyst. Visit it for the appropriate shopping, food or programme purpose, and choose an actual accommodation provider separately. This distinction matters more than preserving an attractive but unsupported stay name from an older list.
Zostel Anna Nagar: dorm accommodation, not a beach hotel
Zostel Chennai Anna Nagar describes an adults-only property with dorms rather than private rooms. Its published address is in Anna Nagar, a city base rather than a coastal resort. Choose it if shared accommodation and common spaces fit the trip. Check the exact dorm type, bathroom arrangements, luggage security and current identification policy. Its eighteen-plus rule makes it unsuitable for a family with children, however attractive the nightly bed price may look.
Compare hostel and hotel totals on equal terms
A dorm rate is normally per person and bed, while a hotel quote may be per room. Include taxes, towels, breakfast, transport and any deposit before deciding which is cheaper for your party. Confirm whether a group can actually be accommodated together; booking several beds does not by itself make a shared dorm private. A budget Anna Nagar base, a White Town-style guesthouse elsewhere and an East Coast Road resort answer different needs, not different star levels of one experience.
